Tesco strike in Sligo & Carrick-on-Shannon suspended

Planned industrial action by workers at Tesco in Sligo and Leitirm has been suspended.

Workers were due to join the picket line outside both stores tomorrow but this has now been called-off.

Mandate Trade Union members at Tesco stores in both Sligo Town and Carrick on Shannon held a series of strikes in the run up to the busy Christmas period.

Pay, the removal of canteen and break-room facilities and, what members describe as, the breaking of agreements between management and workers were some of the reasons for the dispute.

Both side have now agreed to jointly go back to to the Workplace Relations Commission.

As a result, the planned action will not go ahead and the union is due to consult with its members in Sligo on Monday night in Carrick-on-Shannon on Tuesday night.

Speaking to our reporter Therese Madden, Ciaran Campbell, Mandate Divisional Organiser for the North and West says both sides have been involved in high level talks.
