A legal agreement to purchase a site for new 95 bed unit for older people in Leitrim is being finalised.
The facility will be located at St Patrick’s Hospital in Carrick on Shannon.
The preferred site for the new building has been approved for purchase, subject to planning, by the HSE National Property Steering Group.
Funding of around 16 million euro has been approved under the Capital Plan to start designing the unit once the sale of the site has been approved.
Sligo Leitrim Fine Gael Senator Franks Feighan says there had been some concern locally about the project regarding a previously earmarked site.
