Time to end two-tier pay for school secretaries

A Donegal TD has claimed there’s a two-tier pay system in existence for school secretaries

Fianna Fáil Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue says this has resulted in many school secretaries in the north west not employed by the Department of Education receiving less wages and poorer terms and conditions than those employed directly by the department.

90% of a school secretaries nationally are not employed directly by the Department of Education and are instead paid from school funding.

Those not employed by the Department often lose out on benefits such as pensions, sick leave entitlements and incremental pay scale increases.

Speaking earlier to Ocean FM News Deputy McConalogue says the situation has to change.
