Sligo man aiming to gather 1,000 pairs of shoes for children in South Africa

A Sligo man is embarking on a novel aim — to gather 1,000 pairs of shoes for children in South Africa.

Ciaran McHugh, well known as a landscape photographer and for his work on raising awareness of the now unused Sligo Gaol, is looking for old trainers, runners, sports shoes . . . anything that children here may once have worn and now are unused and forgotten.

So far, more than 20 national schools throughout County Sligo are helping Ciaran meet his target.

The shoes will eventually be sent to a township in Cape Town.

Ciaran has been telling Ocean FM News what inspired him to take on this effort.
