Leitrim women’s gaelic footballers will compete in this season’s LIDL national football league Division 4 campaign next month after a new county executive and temporary team manager were put in place, folloiwng a special AGM in Drumshanbo on Saturday night.
The team is scheduled to play Antrim on the opening weekend of the new NFL season on Sunday, February 3rd.
Last year, the team withdrew from the league mid-season and did not play in the championship – and there were fears that the county might not able to field a team for this season’s league campaign.
However, last night’s meeting drew strong support from across the county with players committing to make themselves available for the county and the main executive officer roles were also filled.
While Leitrim LGFA officials finalise the appointment of a permant team manager, Brian Mulvey from county champions St Joseph’s has agreed to take temporary charge of the Leitrim team in preparation for their first league match away to Antrim in three weeks time.
Drumshanbo native Aidan Heron, who previous was chair of Glencar/Manorhamilton GAA Club, has agreed to be chairperson of Leitrim LGFA for the year ahead with Drumkeerin’s PJ Ryan named as Secretary.
