No electric substation for Sligo

A site in east Sligo has been ruled out as a location for an electricity a substation.

Strananagh near Sooey was being considered as a possible site by EirGrid for the electricity line in north Connaught that will connect local renewable energy to the national grid.

However after a series of economic, environmental and technical studies it has been decided the substations will now be based at Moy near Ballina in Co. Mayo, and Tonroe, near Ballaghadreen, in Co. Roscommon.

EirGrid spokesperson, Louise Glennon, says they have concluded that no further enhancements are needed in relation in the Sligo region at the moment.
