Call for plastic and cardboard not to be used together in packaging

A Sligo tidy towns volunteer says one of the main problems in cutting the use of plastics is not being addressed.

Peter Tiernan, chairman of Sligo Tidy Towns Committee was commenting following an announcement by the Taoiseach that single-use plastics is to be phased out across all government departments and agencies.

That’s in advance of wider laws to be introduced to completely ban throwaway products.

Mr Tiernan says a major problem is the use of both plastic and cardboard in packaging.
