Elderly urged to get panic alarm units installed

More elderly people are getting panic alert units installed in their homes.

The units are connected to a 24-hour national Seniors Alert helpline, which provide a sense of security and peace of mind for users.

They can be activated by the user pressing a personal alarm that may be worn as a pendant or around the wrist like a watch.

The total number of people approved for the alert units in Sligo at the end of 2018 was 822, an increase of 447 since a new Seniors Alert Scheme was introduced in November 2017.

Sligo Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey is encouraging more people to apply for the units.
