Man charged with murder of Donegal woman at Sligo District Court



A 27-year-old man has appeared has appeared before a special sitting of Sligo District Court this evening charged in connection with the death of a 28-year-old woman in Co Donegal.

Richard Burke of 49 Forest Park was charged with the murder of Jasmine McMonagle in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Dressed in a grey top and navy trousers Mr Burke appeared before the special sitting of Sligo District Court just after 8pm this evening where is he was charged with murder contrary to common law of Jasmine McMonagle.

Detective Sgt Michael Galvin of Letterkenny Garda Station told the court that Mr Burke was charged at 3:55 pm today at Letterkenny Garda Station.  He said Mr Burke replied when charged: ‘I understand everything’

Gardai Superintendent Colm Nevin applied to have Mr Burke remained in custody to Harrison Town District Court until Friday, January 11th.

The body of Ms McMonagle was found at her home at the Forest Park Estate in Killygordon yesterday morning.

The mother of two, originally from Castlefin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was removed to Letterkenny University where a post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday evening by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan.

Judge Kevin Kilrane remanded Mr Burke in custody and granted the request from his Solicitor Frank Dorrian for free legal aid.
