With dry weather, calls to lift ban on slurry spreading now

There have been calls for the Minister for Agriculture to immediately lift the ban on spreading slurry.

The 15th of January is the date the ban is set to be lifted in the southern half of the country while in the North West region the ban is due to cease at the end of January

However, should it be lifted now, it would allow farmers the opportunity to boost grass growth for spring.

Leitrim IFA Chairman James Gallagher says that farming by calendar is not always the best practice in this country.

He spoke to our reporter John Lynch.
