Fewer new cars registered in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim last year compared to 2017



Fewer new cars were registered in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim during 2018 than in the previous year.

Meanwhile, throughout the country, registrations of new electric cars almost doubled.

The figure for new car registrations in Donegal in 2018 was 2,599, a drop of more than 11% on 2017.

In Leitrim, the decrease was more than 12%, dropping from 551 to 484.

In Sligo, 1,085 new cars was registered, a fall of almost five-and-a-half per cent.

Overall throughout the country, there were 125,557 new car registrations in 2018 . . . that’s 4.4% down on 2017.

New electric car registrations for 2018 increased, with 1,233 registered in comparison to 622 in 2017.

And the diesel and petrol market shares have move closer, with diesel in 2018 accounting for 54% and petrol at 44%.
