Rector of Drumcliffe saddened by theft of bronze statue



The rector of Drumcliffe says he is is saddened and annoyed about the theft of a large bronze sculpture from the church car park over the weekend.

Gardai are now investigating the incident and are appealing to anyone who may have information to come forward.

The statue, which forms part of a larger piece inspired by the poem- ‘He wishes for the cloths of heaven’ – by WB Yeats, is believed to have been taken over the course of the weekend.

Gardai are now examining CCTV footage to try and identify a timeline for when the piece was removed.

Owner of the Drumcliffe Tea House located next to the church, Jill Barber, says this isn’t the first time the statue has been targeted by thieves.
