The centenary of Countess Markievicz’s election to parliament will be celebrated with a special event in Sligo this afternoon.
It will include a Christmas concert as well as a number of women talking about how Markievicz inspired them or about how their lives have been impacted by what she achieved.
Speakers will include the Mayor of Sligo Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady, MEP Marian Harkin, Cllrs Sinead Maguire, Marie Casserly and others.
