Medals & records galore for Mona!

Grange swimmer Mona McSharry lowered a 23-year old record for the women’s 100 metres freestyle twice in the one day en route to increasing her gold medal haul at the Irish national shortccourse swimming championships in Lisburn to four.

Having won two gold medals in the pool on Thursday, as well as improving her own Irish record for the 50 metres freestyle, the Marlins club swimmer then smashed the record for the 100 metres freestyle on Friday (which had stood since 1995) en route to winning her semi-final heat. She then bettered that new time again in the final when winning gold.

Later in the evening, Mona added the women’s 100 metres breaststroke title to her collection.
