Fears motorists are warning criminals of Garda check points

Motorists across the north west may be inadvertently warning criminals of a Garda presence in the form of check points.

The practice whereby motorists flash their light in order to alert other road users to check points and speed vans has been criticised by Superintendent Kevin English at this week’s Joint Policing meeting which took place in Carrick on Shannon.

The Carrick-on-Shannon based Superintendent says this practice is helping criminals to avoid Gardai and allows them to commit further crime.
