Coastal erosion to be the main climate-change challenge for north west

A senior Sligo County Council official has warned that coastal erosion is going to be THE major climate issue for the north west in the years to come.

Among local authorities, Sligo is taking a leading role in how to deal with climate change and its affects, becoming the first in the country to start preparing an adaptation strategy.

The issue arose at a meeting of the council this week during a discussion about erosion of an area at Strandhill beach.

Director of Services with Sligo County Council Tom Kilfeather says different areas of the country are facing different challenges.
