Calls for former halfway house for ex-prisoners in Sligo to be used for homeless

A Sligo councillor is calling for a former halfway house for ex-prisoners in Sligo town to be used for emergency housing for families.

Kazelain House, on Finisklin Road, had 16 beds and had been used to help ex-prisoners rebuild their lives.

A meeting of Sligo County Council yesterday heard the house was in the name of the Finisklin Housing Association but ultimately will become the responsibility of the county council.

Although it’s not suitable for housing at present, Sinn Fein Councillor Chris MacManus suggested it be refurbished and used to help alleviate the accommodation crisis that some families face.
