Businesses urged to be on the lookout for €500 notes



Gardaí in Sligo are asking business people in the area to report any suspicious transactions involving €500 notes.

It follows a burglary that occurred on Tuesday at a house in the Maugheraboy area of the town.

The burglary on Tuesday involved a break-in to the home of an elderly couple.

It’s believed a substantial amount of money, as well as a large quantity of miraculous medals, were stolen.

Gardai are now appealing to anyone with Dash Cam footage to review it if they were in the area of Maugheraboy, and Oakfield Road to Carraroe area between 9.30am to 12.00 midday on Tuesday . . . and to report it by calling 071-915 7000 or the Garda Confidential number 1 800 666 111

Meanwhile, gardai in Donegal are asking people to be on the alert after more reports of a scam involving callers ringing from a Dublin land line number with an automated message claiming to be front Irish Revenue.

The message asks for the person to phone them back as they have a criminal charge pending.

They will then request bank details when on the phone to pay a fine.
