Over hyped crime figures causing unnecessary concerns in rural communities



A top Garda is disputing claims that rural Ireland is awash with crime.

 

Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken is encouraging the public to continue to report all crimes and has promised that locally Gardai will be as proactive as possible when it comes to crime prevention in the region.

 

Speaking at this week’s Leitrim Joint Policing Committee meeting, the Chief Superintendent says that over-hyped crime figures and unconfirmed reports of criminal activity has sparked fear in some rural communities.
