Tesco workers to strike in Sligo & Carrick-on-Shannon

Tesco workers in Sligo are set to strike this week.

Mandate trade union members from Sligo will strike on Thursday the 6th and Friday the 14th of December while Carrick- on- Shannon employees are also set to strike on Saturday the 22nd.

The union is warning the dispute could spread nationwide if it is not resolved.

However, in a statement released yesterday evening, Tesco say the strike action is unwarranted and says the two stores will remain open on the days.

The strikes are taking place due to a number of issues such as pay, the removal of canteen and break room facilities and the breaking of agreements between management and workers.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Ciaran Campbell, Mandate Trade Unions Divisional Organiser for the North and West says that it was a difficult decision to make.
