Call for more women to be local authority chief executives

In Connacht/Ulster, there is no local government CEO job filled by a woman.

Now, a Fianna Fail TD is calling for steps to be taken to ensure there are more women in the chief executive role.

Longford/Westmeath Deputy Robert Troy says only 28 per cent of chief executives in local government across the country are women.

It falls below the minimum requirement of 30 per cent placed on political parties.

However, Leitrim County Council has already blazed the trail; a few years ago, its chief executive was a woman.

Deputy Tory says action should taken to have more in the top local government job.
