Queenan not to be added to Fianna Fail ticket

Sligo County Councillor Joe Queenan has confirmed that he has received an email from party headquarters to say he will not be added to the party ticket to contest the local elections.

He has also that he will run as an independent candidate in the 2019 local elections, if he cannot run for Fianna Fail.

Cllr Queenan faced ethics enquiries after the Standards in Public Office Commission or SIPO held hearings following an RTE Investigates programme.

Those hearings were believed to have been completed in September but Monaghan Councillor Hugh McElvaney has mounted a High Court challenge against RTE.

Cllr Queenan said while this process is ongoing he cannot contest next Summer’s election for Fianna Fail.

He is hopeful for a swift conclusion to the SIPO hearing which ultimately could allow him to run as a Fianna Fail candidate.

Cllr Queenan claims to have the support of fellow party members.
