13-man Tourlestrane bow out of Connacht

Sligo senior football champions Toulestrane bowed out of the Connacht senior club championship on Sunday when they lost out to Ballintubber of Mayo by a single point (0-6 to 0-5) at windy Enniscrone.

There was little to choose between the sides for much of the hour. Playing into a strong wind in the opening half, Tourlestrane restricted their opponents to three first-half points, and trailed by two at the interval, 0-3 to 0-1.

However, they themselves found scores hard to come by in the second period, and their gameplan was complicated by two second-half dismissals. Shane Dunne saw red for a high tackle and later Adrian McIntyre picked up a second yellow card.

Ballintubber will now face Aughawillan of Leitrim in the provincial semi-final on Sunday, November 11th.

Listen to Eamonn O’Hara’s postmatch verdict (in conversation with Cathal Mullaney).
