Sligo Business group slams Government inaction on rail line

Confirmation from an Irish Rail official that there will be no new carriages on the Sligo-Dublin line for at least another two years is yet another example of the lack of government funding for the north west and rural areas in general.

That’s according to the chairperson of the Sligo Business Improvement District, Finbar Filan, in response to comments on Ocean FM by Iarnrod Eireann Corporate Communications Manger Barry Kenny.

He said that despite complaints about overcrowding, it’s not possible to immediately provide much-needed new carriages.

Mr Filan is now calling on Irish Rail to give priority to the Sligo-Dublin line.
