Irish Water say new water treatment plant needed for Lough Talt water supply



Irish Water says an upgraded treatment plant and a new water source are the ultimate solutions to the problems with the Lough Talt water supply in South Sligo.

It’s after the utility yesterday lifted a Boil Water Notice that had been in force for the past eight months on the Lough Talt scheme, affecting 13,000 customers.

It had been imposed after the discovery of the bacteria cryptosporidium at the scheme’s treatment plant, as well as reports of illness in the community.

But despite the lifting of that notice, Anthony Skeffington, regional asset operations manager with Irish Water, says a new treatment plant is needed now:
