Dail hears of Sligo hospital’s efforts to reduce waiting lists

An additional ear, nose and throat clinic is to be run at Sligo University Hospital from next month in an effort to reduce waiting lists.

Health Minister Simon Harris says it’s part of an overall effort to reduce waiting times across a number of areas at the hospital.

He was speaking in the Dail yesterday evening in answer to a query from Sligo/Leitrim Fianna Fail Deputy Marc MacSharry about what was being done to deal with the issue in Sligo.

He outlined a number of initiatives being undertaken:

Deputy MacSharry, however, was not entirely satisfied.

He wanted to know what portion of an increased budget for the National Purchase Treatment Fund was going to be spent in the north west for Sligo and Letterkenny hospitals.

He said waiting lists are still increasing:

Minister Harris said Sligo University Hospital, and the ENT department in particular, were making every effort to reduce waiting times.

But Deputy MacSharry wondered if the effort in ENT could be expanded to other departments.
