Vandalised amenity area in Sligo likely to remain closed until middle of next year

A Sligo town community’s recreational area that is now closed because of vandalism is not likely to reopen until the middle of next year.

It’s after the playing surface of a games area in the old Fairgreen was badly damaged some months ago.

Sligo County Council is now seeking quotations for repair works but it’s likely these will not be carried out until the middle of next year due to available funding and weather.

Sinn Fein Councillor Chris MacManus says it’s particularly disappointing for the local community, which had campaigned to save the Fairgreen from being turned into a car park so it could be used as an amenity area.
