Sligo leading the way with bike-share scheme



The future of a much-praised, high-tech bike-share scheme in Sligo now depends on sponsorship from private business or funding from the county council.

Sligo is the first town of its size in Europe to have such a scheme, which has been operating successfully on a pilot basis for the past eight months.

Bicycles are located at different locations and may be rented by downloading an app, paying by using a credit or debit card and scanning in a code that’s specific to each bike.

The scheme is operated by ecotravel, based in Drumcliffe, Co Sligo.

Following a presentation to this week’s meeting of councillors from Sligo Municipal District, ecotravel’s managing director Jarlath Gantly told Ocean FM News where the scheme in Sligo goes from here:
