New custody facilities confirmed for Sligo Garda Station



The Gardai are to get new custody facilities for prisoners at Sligo Garda Station.

Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken confirmed that funding has been secured for the new facilities at a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee on Friday.

They should be in place in the current Garda Station by next Spring.

Gardai in Sligo town have been bringing prisoners to Ballymote Garda Station for questioning since the cells in Sligo closed in October 2016.

While a site has been secured for the new headquarters in Sligo, the Chief Superintendent told Ocean FM News that interim measures are needed to support Gardai in Sligo town:
