37% more people waiting for a hospital bed compared to this time last month



There were 37% more people waiting on trolleys in the first week of October compared to the first week of September in the North West.

In Letterkenny University Hospital, 136 people were waiting for a bed so far this week compared to 104 this time last month which is an increase of 36%.

Sligo University Hospital sees an increase of 39%; there were 71 people waiting in the first week of September while there were 99 this week.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation released for the overall figures for September recently were it found there was 7,765 people waiting.

The INMO says the lack of nursing positions being filled is a major concern and a cause for the large waiting numbers.
