Surf Centre of Excellence to become a flagship project of the North West



A County Sligo coastal village’s hopes of becoming the location for a major surfing flagship project along the Wild Atlantic Way has been given a major boost.

It’s after Failte Ireland’s decision to give a grant for more than a million euro for the development of a Surf Centre of Excellence in Strandhill.

All going well, it’s hoped the centre might be up and running in two years time.

Such a Centre of Excellence would also further enhance Strandhill’s reputation as one of the word’s leading surfing areas, helping boost visitor numbers to the North West.

Independent Sligo Councillor Declan Bree is chairman of the group behind the project, the Strandhill Maritime Board.
