North West politicians divided on Alcohol Bill



Politicians in the North West are divided over provisions in the Public Health Alcohol Bill, which was discussed in the Dail for four hours last night.

Among the provisions in the Bill is that the cancer risks of alcohol be highlighted by putting labels on all alcohol products.

But some local TDs, as well as the powerful drinks industry, are opposing the move, citing the needs to protect jobs in buisinesses such as local breweries.

Sligo/Leitrim Fianna Fail TD Eamon Scanlon says local job creators like small breweries need to be supported.

But other TDs, such as Sligo/Leitrim Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny, have a very different opinion:
