Minister lashes out over people ‘not using local services’



The Minister for Rural Affairs has come under fire for rehashing statistics from the Ireland 2040 plan in an effort to justify the closure of rural post offices.

Minister Michael Ring was asked by Sinn Fein Sligo Leitrim TD Martin Kenny to urge An Post to change the criteria it’s using to close down rural post offices.

But without answering the question, Minister Ring rhymed off at least 5 rural investment schemes the government is committed to as part of the Ireland 2040 Plan.

Deputy Kenny said those statistics are of little consolation to people who are losing services in their areas.

To which the Minister lashed out accusing people in rural Ireland of simply not using their local services:
