Any reduction in hours at Donegal Town Garda station will encourage crime warns Mayor



The Mayor of Donegal Town says any reduction of the opening hours of Donegal Town garda station will only encourage criminals to come into the area.

Padraig Kennedy made his comments following a Joint Policing Committee meeting last night at which having the station open for just 12 hours a day was discussed.

However, he said there was no agreement at last night’s meeting on opening hours.

Speaking to Ocean Fm News, he began by expressing his disappointment over what was a poor attendance for such an important meeting:

He says Donegal Town or the surrounding area will not accept what would be a reduction in service:

The mayor is now calling on all TDs and senators and representatives to fight for more resources for the Donegal Town area.

Gardai however say they are trying to make the best use of resources and personnel.

But Mr Kennedy claims gardai in Donegal Town have to sometimes attend calls in other area:
