Clarification sought on proposed new psychiatric unit in Sligo



There are calls this morning for clarification on when construction will start on a proposed new psychiatric unit at Sligo University Hospital.

The HSE says the unit is expected to be operational in early 2020, subject to funding approval and construction starting in the third quarter of this year.

But that has now been thrown into doubt with Health Minister Simon Harris having told Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohue that there’s a funding gap of €109m this year in the capital plan for the health service.

Sligo/Leitrim Fianna Fail TD Eamon Scanlon raised the issue in the Dail yesterday.

But he says he is now more confused after the reply he got from Junior Minister Jim Daly:
