Sligo County Council hosting WWI commemorative event on Monday



An event remembering the men who lost their lives in ‘The Great War’ is taking place tomorrow in Sligo tomorrow.

Sligo County Council will be launching the World War One Commemorative Garden Partnership.

It’s taking place in Sligo City Hall on Monday evening at 6pm.

The first World War took place between 28th of July 1914 and officially ended with the Armistice of the 11th of November 1918, in ‘the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month.

The figure of Irish deaths is somewhat debated, with at least 30,000 dead but some sources out this as high as 49,000
