Construction of new psychiatric unit for Sligo university Hospital delayed

The new psychiatric unit at Sligo University Hospital is delayed.

There is a funding gap of €109m meaning a number of projects around the country will be pushed or delayed into the 2019 budget.

Just over €15b was allocated for the HSE in this years budget however the department is also carrying over a deficit of €140m from 2017 which the government needs to address.

Minister of Finance Paschal Donohoe said earlier this week that the overall HSE deficit could be around €600m, however, HSE estimates put this figure between €750m and €1.1b
