Presidential hopefuls addressing Sligo County Council this morning

Five presidential hopefuls are scheduled to address Sligo County Council today in their effort to get on the ballot paper.

However, it’s unclear if businesman Sean Gallagher or Pieta House founder Joan Freeman will show up as they already have got the four nominations necessary from local authorities.

The others expected at the meeting are Patrick Feeney from Galway, Roscommon farmer John Groarke and Donegal businessman Peter Casey.

Sligo County Council will not actually nominate a candidate until a meeting later but nominations must be submitted to the Presidential Returning Officer by Sept. 26th.

Speaking to North West Today this morning, Mr Casey says it’s impossible for those seeking nominations to get to all local authority meetings.
