Another whale washed up on a Sligo beach

Sligo County Council says it doesn’t have the resources to remove a whale that has washed up on Cummeen Strand.

The whale washed up near Gibraltar Point and the Council contacted the Irish Whale and Dolphin group while also carrying out its own inspection.

The Council says the location is quite isolated and access for machinery would be difficult.

As burying the whale is also not an option in the area, the Council says that the cost would be too high and as the area is isolated, they have decided to let nature take its course.

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group has indicated that it is concerned at the increasing number of dead whales being washed up on our beaches.
