Businesses evacuated after a fire breaks out on O’Connell Street in Sligo Town



2pm:

O’Connell Street remains partially blocked off to traffic following a fire which broke out at a premises earlier.

At least 6 units of the fire brigade were called to the scene at McGarrigles pub just after 12:30pm this afternoon.

Gardaí evacuated the entire street including businesses as Fire Services tackled the blaze which has now been brought under control.

Gardai have confirmed that the road remains closed in parts this afternoon to both motorists and pedestrians as Gardaí and the Fire Services conduct their investigations.

There are no reports of injuries.

The emergency services have been called to the scene of what’s understood to be a significant fire on O’Connell Street in Sligo.

The fire was reported in the last half an hour at McGarrigles.

Gardai say O’Connell Street is being closed off.

Businesses in the area have also been evacuated.

Meanwhile, local businessman Finbarr Filan says that the fire appears to be under control and everyone safe.
