Naughten says closure of post offices is necessary



The Communications Minister has been defending the closure of post offices, saying the consolidation plan will sustain the network into the future.

A group of TDs have been questioning Denis Naughton and An Post about the closure of 159 post offices around the country, 27 of which are in the north west counties of Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.

Fianna Fail say the closures will put an “intolerable burden” on many of the rural areas affected.

But Minister Naughton says the move was a necessary one:
