There are fears that a plebiscite to change the name of Enniscrone in West Sligo cannot now take place in the immediate future, as residents in the West Sligo coastal village had been hoping.
They want to change the name from Inniscrone to Enniscrone, beginning with an ‘E’ instead of an ‘I.’
However, Ocean FM News understands an issue has now arisen over the holding of the plebiscite.
It was hoped a date for the plebiscite could have been set at today’s meeting of Sligo County Council . . . but it seems this will not now happen.
Enniscrone-based Fianna Fail Councillor Joe Queenan says that even though the matter may be deferred at today’s council meeting, local people will ensure the plebiscite is held as soon as possible.
