€1.5m is now available for groups under the CLÁR 2018 programme for the Wheelchair Access and Cancer Care Support Measure.
Voluntary groups and organisations that provide transport to and from medical services for wheelchair users and also for people requiring treatment under the National Cancer Care Programme can now apply for funding.
The scheme can cover upto 85% of the total cost of fitting out a vehicle for wheelchair users with 15% needing to be covered by the organisation.
Independent Sligo Councillor Marie Casserly says that while any funding is welcome, it doesn’t go far enough.
