Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal see a drop in number of overseas visitors



The Northwest counties saw a drop in visitor numbers last year, according to the most recent figures published by Fáílte Ireland.

Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal saw a drop of almost 50,000 overseas tourists in 2017.

469,000 overseas visitors came to Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal last year.

Co Donegal had the most visitors in the Northwest in 2017 with 255,000 tourists visiting. While last year 173,000 came to Sligo, while 41,000 overseas tourists visited Co Leitrim.

Each county saw a drop on the 2016 figures. Co Donegal had 28,000 more visitors then, with 283,000. While Co Sligo saw a drop of 11,000 on the 2016 figures, 184,000 tourists came two years ago. While 49,000 overseas tourists came to Co Leitrim in 2016, that’s 8,000 more than visited the county last year.
