Ross – ‘Any changes to VAT for tourism sector should not hit rural Ireland’



Rural Ireland shouldn’t be hit by any changes to the VAT rate for the tourism sector, according to the Minister in charge.

Shane Ross has suggested a two-tier tax system for big hotels and the rest of the hospitality sector.

He hinted the 9 per cent VAT rate could be increased for large hotels and kept low for the rest of the industry.

Minister Ross says he doesn’t want to dent the progress made by the tourism sector over the past few years…
