Thrupenny pool cleaned of fish thanks to ‘great community spirit’

Through community effort, the large amount of dead fish in Bundoran has been cleared.

On Tuesday, hundreds of Horse Mackerel along the North Leitrim and South Donegal costs washed up to the surprise of many.

It turned out that they were chasing sprat and had become stranded on land.

A significant amount were trapped in Thrupenny Pool in Bundoran so Donegal County Council along with Bundoran Tidy Towns drained the pool yesterday evening and removed the fish from the popular area.

Local residents, and a few tourists, gave up their free time to help with the efforts which began at 6pm and by 10pm the pool was cleaned.

Michael McMahon, Chairperson of Bundoran Tidy Towns, helped coordinate the effort and thanked everyone who helped out saying that ‘we are glad we were able to deal with the problem quickly thanks to this great community spirit.’
