Drumcliffe/Rosses Point GAA Club Notes

Sunday, July 29th, 2018

Big congrats to our boys U12 footballers who lifted the Division 1 Shield title last Thursday in Scarden when they beat Coolera/Strandhill in the decider by a single score – on a final scoreline of 0-16 to 0-15. This followed up their semi-final success over St John’s two days earlier. Well done to all the players and the management team of Declan Carroll, Ed O’Mahony and Paul McDonagh.

Well done to club players Sinead Regan, Michelle McNamara and the Sligo footballers who beat Laois last Sunday to top their All-Ireland qualifier group and qualify for the last eight of this year’s TG4 All-Ireland intermediate football championship. They play Wicklow in the quarter-finals this weekend.

Our senior men’s footballers have a bye on the opening weekend of the Belfry Senior Football Championship. We are in Group 2 along with Coolera/Strandhill and St Molaise Gaels. Our first match is on Saturday week, August 11th against Coolera/Strandhill in Kent Park at 7pm.

Our ladies intermediate footballers begin their championship campaign on August 19th.

The girls minor team continue their championship with a round-robin match against Tourlestrane this Wednesday evening at 7pm. The girls U16 team begin their ‘A’ championship campaign with a match against the same opposition on Thursday evening (August 2nd). Good luck to all involved.

The boys U14 footballers begin their championship campaign this Friday evening when they host Enniscrone/Kilglass at Oxfield at 7pm.

A big thank-you to everybody who helped out with the recent Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp at Oxfield. It was a terrific week with a record 198 participants over the five days, which included visiting players from Argentina, Australia and Florida. All the players were a credit to their families and club(s). Special thanks go to our hardworking local Cúl Camp co-ordinator Mary Power for all her work.

Tickets for the club’s new Lotto Draw (2018/19), priced at €50 for the full year, are now on sale from any club officer. Please support this important club fundraiser.

Our Saturday morning GAA nursery coaching will resume on August 18th at the usual times.

Best wishes to Darragh Cox on his recent appointment as Sligo GAA Hurling Games Promotion Officer.
