Streets of Sligo 5K to take place on August 4

Sligo Athletic Club will launch their new  Streets of Sligo 5K on Saturday, August 4, and this year’s event will incorporate a two-lap circuit of the town, starting in Wine Street and finishing in Rockwood Parade, followed by a barbecue, courtesy of The Bourbon Bar  at 8.30pm.

This year, organisers are inviting companies to make a corporate entry by encouraging staff to walk or run this new course. Companies will be recognised with an award of a commemorative plaque in recognition of their participation and the opportunity to enjoy a post-event burger and drink in The Bourbon Bar.

Companies interested in taking part should email  slyouthfootball@gmail.com or phone Terry Hayes at  0872274622  where details of entry can be arranged.

Registration will be in the Embassy  JFK Parade  where numbers can be collected up to  6.30pm on Saturday, August 4, with a start time of 7pm.

The start is in Wine Street across from Canny Solicitors Office. The route proceeds up Wine Street, past the Glasshouse Hotel, over Hyde Bridge and ahead into Stephen Street.

It then turns into Bridge Street passing the Embassy on the left, turns right into Castle Street, Grattan Street, John Street, Thomas Street and right at the Cathederal into Adelaide Street.

It goes into Union Street and straight ahead to the Traffic Lights at Hughes Bridge and turns right along the river and on to pass the Town Hall and on to Wine Street again where a left turn is taken and the same circuit is repeated a second time. Coming on to Wine Street the second time, after passing the Town Hall a left turn is taken again and then a right turn  along the river onto Rockwood Parade to finish beside Fiddlers Creek Bar where the finish will be cordoned.
