Roadworks continue to cause headaches in busy tourist season

Businesses say major road works in Manorhamilton are a huge inconvenience coming up to the 12th of July tomorrow in the North.

The town faces up to two months of road works as old water pipes are being replaced between Main Street west along the N16 ending in the Cornastalk area.

Irish Water says the work will result in improved water quality and reduce the risk of contamination to the supply.

Local businesses owner and Independent Councillor Felim Gurn says while there’s no good time to do road works, it is an inconvenience at this busy time of the year:

Resurfacing work is also being carried out at Glencar and on the main N15 north of Sligo.

Road works have also started this week on new footpaths and resurfacing on the main N59 to Ballina at Ballisodare.

The Councils are urging people to be patient with the works which have to be done and the Council yesterday hit out at some motorists for failing to obey signs in place while work is continuing at the Wine Street car-park in Sligo town.
