Donegal hotel that shut during crash announces 40 new jobs in €2m expansion plan



A Co Donegal has announced 40 new jobs in a €2m expansion.

The popular Shandon Hotel & Spa sits on the Wild Atlantic Way at Marble Hill Beach just outside Dunfanaghy.

The hotel was closed down during the recession.

However new owners re-opened the hotel and spa tow years ago.

It now offers 68 rooms to guests, with 18 new rooms completed in recent weeks and now available to book.

As part of the new expansion forty new positions are being created across the hotel including at the Spa and a new hairdressing salon.

The Shandon Hotel closed in 2011 after going into receivership. The hotel was purchased at auction by local London-based businessman and re-opened in 2016 with an initial recruitment of 55 new staff.

The hotel & spa now employs 130 staff.

It’s a further boost for Co Donegal ahead of the Irish Open golf which gets underway next week. The former Foyle Hotel in Moville, reopened its doors last week with the creation of 30 new jobs.
